This weekend marks the 104th Manson Apple Blossom Festival, one of our absolute favorite local traditions!
To mark the occasion, we’re reflecting on the history of this time-honored tradition and giving you a sneak peek of all the fun activities to plan for.
Let’s dive in!
Apple Blossom Festival Origins
Nestled in the scenic Lake Chelan Valley, the Manson Apple Blossom Festival bursts into life each spring with a flair that can only be matched by the blossoms themselves!
This quaint celebration began on May 11, 1921, when the good folks of Manson decided to throw a party to honor the blooming of apple trees.
As the years passed, new traditions were introduced into the festivities, including the annual coronation of the Apple Blossom Royalty. The first Apple Blossom Queen was Ruby Phelps, crowned in 1928. In 1947, the very first parade was held—a tradition that has become an absolute staple of this event!
From its humble beginnings with a few festive floats and a couple of dances, the festival has grown into an annual must-see event, attracting visitors from near and far.
Apple Blossom Festival Traditions
Every May, the streets of Manson transform into a picturesque parade route lined with vibrant floats, lively marching bands, and residents bursting with community pride.
Over the decades, the festival has added a bevy of events, including a 5K run (for shaking off those winter cobwebs), a quilt show (because what’s cozier than a handmade quilt?), and a pancake breakfast!
Through it all, the Manson Apple Blossom Festival embodies the spirit of small-town America: a community coming together to celebrate the natural beauty and agricultural bounty that defines their way of life.
So, if you’re longing for a slice of Americana with a side of pancakes, the Manson Apple Blossom Festival is your ticket to a delightful spring adventure!
It’s a celebration where everyone is invited to enjoy the blooming trees, partake in the joyous festivities, and perhaps leave a little happier and a lot more in love with our charming village on the lake!
