Colorful leaves on Thanksgiving

So, you’re hosting Thanksgiving this year and want to make it fun and memorable for the entire family.

Yes, you have your food items ready, the delicious bird is in the oven, and you might even have some festive music playing for everyone to enjoy. It just seems like something is missing.

Games!

Everyone loves playing games, especially with the entire family. So to kick your Thanksgiving holiday up a few notches, here are five family fun activities for your Thanksgiving.

1. Find the M&M’s

M&M's in a bowl for a game of find the M&M's

Find the M&M’s? That seems simple enough, right? Well, here’s the challenging part. You must rummage through a bowl of whipped cream, and you can’t use your hands! So instead, you have to use your mouth.

Seeing your parents and even your grandparents with whipped cream all over their faces makes this game extra fun!

What You’ll Need

  1. A bag of M&M’s
  2. Disposable bowls
  3. Whipped cream
  4. Paper towels

How to Play

  • Evenly divide your disposable bowls along a counter or table to accommodate all those playing.
  • Place 20 M&M’s in each bowl and then cover the M&M’s with your whipped cream.
  • Line each player up in front of their bowls and explain that they all have 40 seconds to collect as many M&M’s as possible using only their mouths.
  • The player with the most M&M’s wins.

Be sure to keep the paper towels handy!

2. Turkey Chase

Turkey Chase

This next game is a lot of fun for everyone to enjoy. For this game, similar to an easter egg hunt, you will be hunting for turkeys that have been hidden around areas of the house. The areas could be inside, outside, living room only, or wherever you would like the designated hiding area to be.

What You’ll Need

  1. Foam Turkeys – More the merrier
  2. A grand prize for finding the golden turkey.

How to Play

  • Take one turkey out of your lot and write “Golden Turkey” on the back of it with a marker.
  • Hide the turkeys in whatever random locations you’d like. Make sure to do this before everyone’s arrival.
  • Surprise everyone with the turkey chase after dinner with a cute backstory.
  • Let the game begin!

3. Football Flick

We all know that Thanksgiving is a big day for football. So what would this Thanksgiving day be without participating in the game itself?

What You’ll Need

  1. Mini foam footballs
  2. Three bins or boxes of exact same sizes.

How to Play

  • Each game session will consist of three players with ten foam balls.
  • Place the bins/boxes a fair distance from each player. Make sure each bin/box is the same length away for each player. You can also get creative and place more boxes at a different location from each player for extra points!
  • With each game lasting 60 seconds, the object is for each player to use their index finger ONLY to flick their little footballs into their bin/box.

  • The player with the most footballs in their box at the end of 60 seconds is the winner!

4. Pass the Corn!

We hope you have some candy corn left over from Halloween because this next game will be sweet!

In each game, two players will go head to head to see who can transfer the most candy corn from one bowl to the other. The only catch is they can only use a straw!

What You’ll Need

  1. Candy corn
  2. Disposable bowls
  3. Straws

How to Play

  • Pair two people together for each game to play and start them off on one side of the room with their bowl of candy corn and straws.
  • Place the empty bowl on the other side of the room.
  • Each player will use their straw and suction from their mouth to pick up each candy corn, transfer it to the empty bowl, and drop it in.
  • Whoever passes the most corn to the empty bowl in 90 seconds is the winner and has officially “passed the corn”!

5. Thanksgiving “Would You Rather”

Notes in a jar for a game of would you rather

Now, we are all familiar with the “would you rather” game. But this is a Thanksgiving-themed version of “would you rather” to end the Thanksgiving meal with. It could even be played during dinner if you’d like!

What You’ll Need

  1. One jar or a hat
  2. Sticky notes
  3. Pen

How to Play

  • On each sticky note, write a clever “would you rather” question involving Thanksgiving. For example:
    • “Would you rather cook the turkey or do the dishes?”
    • “Would you rather miss the football game or not be allowed to eat grandma’s beloved homemade pie?”
    • “Would you rather eat the stuffing or the turkey?”
    •  “Would you rather have ice cream or pie?”
    • “Would you rather be stuck Black Friday shopping in person or pay full price?”
  • Once everyone has finished eating or is sitting at the table after serving themselves dinner, pass the jar around and have the holder pick a note out at random.
  • The person with the note will then ask anyone at the table the “would you rather” question on the sticky note.
  • Have fun!
