November is here, and with it comes the wonderful and joyous holiday of Thanksgiving. It truly is the holiday that kicks all other holidays into high gear as we reach the end of the year.

There are family get-togethers, gatherings of friends, delicious meals, and sometimes traveling is involved. It can seem like a lot and quite challenging at times! But we’re here to tell you it doesn’t need to be.

Here are eight ways to keep your cool during Thanksgiving to maximize your holiday fun.

If you plan on traveling to Lake Chelan during your holiday season, reserve a room at The Lodge and enjoy all the beauty that Lake Chelan has to offer!

1. Plan Ahead

If you plan to fly out to Lake Chelan, ensure you are planning to get the best prices. Some of the top online flight sites to use are:

Google Flights

 Southwest – Low Fare Calendar

Expedia

The same thing goes for driving. Avoid gas price spikes by filling up the day before during non-busy hours at the gas station. Gas tends to get cheaper during the evening since most people are at home enjoying dinner around this point.

2. Schedule “Me” Time

Always remember to take care of yourself, whether that means eating healthy, exercising, meditating, doing yoga, or drinking a gallon of water a day. Whatever your outlet for having a centered mindset is, always remember to schedule that “Me” time for yourself.

3. Savor the Holiday Season

When you feel overwhelmed, just remember to take a minute and savor the holiday season. Take a look around and savor the beautiful fall colors, the joy on the people’s faces all around you, the autumn smells that glide through the air, or the aromas that waft from the cooked food in the kitchen. Enjoy it all, and remember you’re on a holiday vacation.

4. Have a Shopping Game Plan

Make sure you create a list of the exact items you need before heading out to shop for anything. Having a list could make all the difference between checking out smoothly and leaving your spot in line because you forgot that one can of green beans for the casserole.

5. Practice Acceptance

The “perfect holiday” does not exist. Yes, we can schedule and plan for everything to run smoothly through Thanksgiving, but the truth is, things that are totally out of your control will happen. And that’s okay! Stay centered, and remember you are surrounded by those that love and care about you.

6. Indulge in Moderation

Yes, Thanksgiving does tend to bring about a lot of tasty things to indulge in. But no one likes the after-effects of them. So avoid the regret by having a pre-game plan before meals and parties.

Tell yourself, “I will have some dessert, but I will just have one piece of pie,” “I will have a few drinks, but I will be sure to eat and drink water beforehand and after.” Repeat these things to yourself so you can avoid regrets.

7. The Peppermint Pump Up

Did you know that peppermint does more than taste good in beverages? According to researchers Dr. Mark Moss, Robert Jones, and Lucy Moss of UK’s Northumbria University, consuming peppermint tea can immediately improve long-term and short-term memory loss, making you more alert.

Another peppermint hack is to get some peppermint oil for a quick pick-me-up. Simply place a few drops in a napkin, take a sniff, and become more alert.

8. Meditate

Taking 5 to 10 minutes in the morning to meditate is a fantastic way to set the tone and your mindset for the entire day. Find a nice quiet spot, set the alarm on your phone for your desired meditation time, close your eyes, focus on your breathing, and clear your headspace.
