“Oh no, I completely forgot to pack that!”

Have you ever uttered these words after arriving at a summer vacation destination? It’s okay if you have!

When the words “summer vacation” come up, most people tend to think about all the fun things they’re going to do and all the amazing memories they’re going to make.

Even though summer doesn’t officially start until June 21, the summer vibes are heating things up around Lake Chelan, and we are here to help you avoid the “oh no, I should have packed that” trap during your trip.

Here is a list of 5 things you should definitely bring during your summer vacation to Lake Chelan.

1. Sun Protection

Most summer vacations involve a lot of time being spent under the sun. Whether hanging out by the lake, going on bike rides, or just a stroll downtown, exposure to the sun is a large part of any summer vacation.

That’s why it’s important to always ensure you pack the essentials to avoid over-exposure to the sun.

This includes:

  • Sunscreen – SPF 50 or better
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • Aloe Vera – Just in case of sunburn
  • Lotion

2. Bug Repellent

It’s no surprise that any body of water tends to attract bugs. This is especially true for lakes since they are surrounded by wooded areas that more than likely contain more bodies of water, which bugs love.

Remember to pack bug repellent so you don’t get stuck slapping and scratching at yourself when you could be enjoying your vacation. They’re usually not a concern during the day. However, you should begin applying bug repellent as the sun goes down.

Some good bug repellent options include:

 3. Water Thermos

Packing a water thermos is another great thing to remember when visiting Lake Chelan. Staying hydrated while having fun in the sun is very important. Often, we get so caught up in the moment that we forget to hydrate.

Well, not this trip!

Packing a water thermos is a great way to ensure that you always have water available when you’re on the go. Plus, having a water thermos is a great way to cut expenses since you won’t be stuck constantly buying more water every time you go out.  And, we DO have the BEST water here!

4. Flip Flops or Water Shoes

Have you ever been stuck where you needed to walk somewhere, but it wasn’t necessary to put on your socks and shoes? If only you had packed a pair of flip-flops before leaving for your trip.

Having a pair of flip-flops or even easy slip-on shoes packed and ready to go is a great way to maximize those easy-going moments during your vacation.

Be sure to consider what type of slip-on shoes you will need depending on what you will mostly be doing during your trip. For example, if you’re spending a lot of time around the lake and in the water, maybe a pair of mesh water shoes are more necessary than flip-flops. But if you’re planning on spending more time around a pool and casually walking, then perhaps a pair of flip-flops is more your style.

5. Water Floaties

It may seem a bit silly to prioritize bringing some inflatable floating devices with you during your summer vacation in Lake Chelan, but trust me. You’ll be glad you did.

Often, people will arrive at Lake Chelan thinking they’ll be able to pick up water floaties at one of the local businesses. However, due to a large number of visitors that Lake Chelan receives every year, you may risk not finding any floaties at all.

Although inflatable water floaties are not necessary, they make for a great time to relax and float on the lake water as the waves glide you around.
